Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island (PEI) is located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence 120 miles north of Halifax. I arrived on the Confederation Bridge, the world’s longest bridge over ice-covered water. Upon crossing its a short drive on the coast and PIE National Park. The park has an extensive network of floating boardwalks through varied coastal terrain, from saltwater marsh to Acadian Forest.

In Cavendish, within the PEI national park is the Green Gables Heritage Place, a 19th century farm that served as the setting for the Anne of Green Gables novels by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Next was Charlottetown and the PEI Brewing Company.

The return is a 75-minute ferry crossing to Caribou, Nova Scotia. The ferry departs near the Woods Island, PEI lighthouse. Upon arrival back in Nova Scotia I bedded down in Caribou-Munroes Island campground.
